Windows 1.0 was the first GUI enabled Operating System by Microsoft introduced in year 1982, but released on 20th of November in year 1985. Microsoft have licenced some aspects of Mac OS X User Interface from Apple. Windows 1.0 was a 16-bit, graphic based, multi-tasking Operating System that installed using MS-DOS. Windows 1.0 received poor rating from the critics, as they say, "It did not meet their expectations.". Windows 1.0 was called as MS-DOS Operating System, and its programs were called as MS-DOS Functions.

Windows 1.0 GUI programs are executed by ".exe" as MS-DOS, but it have its own ".ne" extension, that only can be processed by Windows. Windows 1.0 have limited graphics support, as it can only operated with DOS.
Windows 1.01 requires Colour Graphics Adapter (CGA), Hercules Graphics Card (HGA) or Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA), with MS-DOS 2.0, a 256 KB or higher of RAM with two doble-sided disk drive or a hard disk drive. Windows 1.03 have added support for Tandy and AT&T graphics.
Windows 1.0 runs MS-DOS Executive which was a shell program, with Calculator, Calendar, Clipboard Viewer, Clock, Notepad, Paint - a Mouse based program, Reversi, Cardfile, Terminal and a Write program.
Windows 1.0 was regarded as a flop release, as it want more system requirements, not capable of opening more applications at once. While Windows 1.0 release introduced a new age of fight of technology between developers and users of Operating Systems in that days.
